Well here I am once again, faced with the challenge of writing something interesting about myself. I never can seem to do it though. Why I force myself to put an 'About' section on my website is beyond me, but I'm really going to try this time, really. Let's see here... ah, my birthplace! That seems like a decent place to start.
I am Canadian, and pretty proud of that fact. I love Canada. You know that part of Alaska which runs down the coast of British Columbia like some sort of tail? Well, I grew up in a small town very near the tip of that: Prince Rupert - a beautiful town of about 15,000 or so.
It's a privilege to grow up in a small town I feel. You hate it growing up, but come to admire it later in life.
Well, after birth, elementary school, high school, grad, I started coding a Mac version of Napster with a friend of mine (I had started using computers in elementary school and fell in love with Mac OS). Napster bought it from us and flew us out to San Francisco to continue. This application was known as "Macster." Yea, super clever, I know.
Anyway, I worked at Napster until the bitter end (3 years or so). During that time though, I learned plenty and I got to work with a small team writing software used by millions. It was definitely a wonderful time of my life.
What have I done since then though? That was like a thousand years ago, wasn't it? Not quite, but close. I have since sold another company, and have been taking on contract work here and there from companies like Ludicorp (Flickr), Yahoo!, imeem, etc. It keeps me busy.
Currently, well, at the moment I am living in Vancouver, B.C. (I love this city). I have just enrolled in a design school which I am damn excited about. And I am once again looking to put out my own Mac software.
There. That wasn't too difficult I suppose. Perhaps you're wondering why I have a website at all. Well, I just happen to really enjoy creating content, and love putting stuff out on display for other people to use, share, hate, love, whatever. The web is just fantastic for this, and so here it is.
Best,
Dustin Mierau
